You can’t pour from an empty cup. You don’t wanna burn out in this process, or you’re gonna hate the process. If you hate the process, you’re not gonna do it. So you have to take care of yourself, you have to plug yourself in every single day to support the efforts of putting the energy into what it is you’re trying to accomplish. - Jen Whitens

Prioritizing Yourself is the Key to Staying Motivated

As women, we are often conditioned to put others first and prioritize the needs of our families, friends, and coworkers above our own. However, in order to stay motivated to achieve our goals and dreams, we must learn to prioritize ourselves. This was the key message in a recent inspiring meeting focused on how to stay committed to yourself.

Self Discipline through Routine

Self discipline is an essential part of achieving any goal, but it must be implemented in a flexible way to avoid burnout. True self discipline is about establishing routines and simplifying tasks, rather than being overly strict. When you miss a day or fall short, the key is to get back on track without beating yourself up. The next best choice you can make is what builds real self discipline. Establishing simple routines can make self discipline easier. For example, setting a regular time each day to work on your goal can help build the habit. Start with small, achievable tasks and build from there. Don't overwhelm yourself with an overly strict routine that you can't sustain. Flexibility and forgiveness are key to avoiding burnout and guilt that sabotage motivation.

Overcoming Self Sabotage through Awareness

Self sabotage, whether conscious or unconscious, can derail our progress. The first step to overcoming it is awareness. When you realize you have self sabotaged, ask yourself what triggered that behavior and what emotions you were feeling. Then you can insert new behaviors to mitigate the effects in the future. Look for patterns in your past failures to gain insight into your self sabotaging tendencies. Common forms of unconscious self sabotage include emotional eating, social media addiction, people pleasing and perfectionism. Becoming aware of these behaviors and patterns is the first step to changing them. Then you can make conscious choices to redirect your energy in a more positive, productive manner.

Fostering a Growth Mindset with Motivators

Having a fixed mindset that you "can't do it" will ensure you don't succeed. Switching to a growth mindset where you believe you can improve is key. Find "mighty motivators" like listening to your favorite music or scrolling inspiring social media that boost your optimism and growth mindset. Anything that makes you feel good and invincible will support your motivation. Developing a growth mindset requires consciously challenging negative self-talk and replacing it with positive affirmations. Tell yourself "I can do this!" instead of "I'll never be able to do this." Visualize yourself succeeding instead of failing. Surround yourself with people and content that support your growth. With effort and practice, you can develop a growth mindset that fuels motivation and perseverance.

Practicing Daily Self Care

In order to pour from a full cup, you must practice daily self care. Make it a non-negotiable part of your routine. Even small acts of self care like taking a relaxing bath can rejuvenate your energy levels and motivation. Prioritize yourself by taking time for activities that bring you joy, even if other tasks go undone for a time. Self care looks different for everyone but some effective strategies include: getting enough sleep, eating nutritious meals, exercising regularly, meditating, journaling thoughts and feelings, spending time in nature, and saying "no" when needed. The key is finding what fills your cup and makes you feel recharged, then making time for it each day. Without daily self care, motivation and energy levels will remain depleted.

Understanding Your Self Worth

If you don't prioritize yourself, it shows you don't truly value yourself. Explore why you don't feel "worthy" of committing to your goals and dreams. Believe that you are valuable and deserving of motivation and commitment. When you understand your worth, you can stay motivated to achieve your potential!

Conclusion

Investing in yourself by prioritizing self discipline, a growth mindset, self care, and understanding your worth are the keys to staying motivated and committed to achieving your goals. Make yourself a priority today - you deserve it, and it will payoff in the future!
